Mobile Device Lab Management. Simplifed.

Remotely Manage Devices, Apps and Tester Activity

Mobile Device Lab Management with deviceConnect Mobile strategies in the enterprise have extended well beyond planning for a single application for external use. Today, organizations have multiple apps that need to be tested across multiple platforms, operating systems, and device types. Maintaining a variety of phones and tablets in all makes and models that are available 24/7 can quickly become chaotic.

deviceConnect Mobile Apps Testing CartAdd the security concerns around data management and accessibility and you have a complex situation to solve. So how do you securely manage all of the devices in your test lab — within your infrastructure — while providing device access to globally distributed team members? Mobile Labs deviceConnect™.

deviceConnect is an internal cloud-based mobile application testing platform that provides comprehensive management of mobile application testing assets. The patent-pending technology brings order to the chaos of managing mobile devices and apps in enterprise test labs.

“A troubling two-thirds of organizations (65%) do not have the right tools to test mobile applications and equally concerning is the 52% who do not have access to the required devices.” – CapGemini and Sogeti’s fourth annual World Quality Report.

Unlike public device clouds, deviceConnect is highly secure because implementation occurs inside your enterprise’s corporate infrastructure. Its location behind your corporate firewall means deviceConnect is easy to install and manage and can be maintained remotely. Housed in a compact mobile cart, this turnkey solution consists of a server, which runs the deviceConnect software, and a rack available in multiple configurations to accommodate large quantities of mobile devices.

deviceConnect takes up a fraction of the space that other on-premises solutions require. Data center personnel can easily wheel the cart from one location to the next and it requires no assistance from environment or power experts, minimizing downtime.

Manage Devices

Manage Devices

Designed for enterprise testing teams, deviceConnect’s powerful, Web-based management console lets you remotely manage, track and monitor your testing assets by individual device name, manufacturer, model number, OS version, availability, and more. Any device in your organization (Android and iOS smarthphones and tablets, which have not been rooted or jailbroken, included) can be managed using the internal cloud-based mobile testing tool.

Manage Devices ScreenshotWith this second-generation software solution, your testers will no longer waste time searching for a device that was inadvertently locked in another tester’s desk drawer or preparing to ‘set up’ for testing. Instead, they can focus exclusively on conducting tests more accurately and efficiently, speeding up the deployment and ROI of your enterprise mobile apps.

With deviceConnect, you can:

  • Remotely add, disable or reboot devices as needed
  • Force close devices as needed, with the device automatically returning to ‘Available’ status
  • Track any device or group of devices by individual device name, manufacturer, model number or OS version
  • View device inventory in real time
  • Filter device inventory by available, in use, in use by a selected user or by device platform

Thank you for your interest in Mobile Labs deviceConnect. All deviceConnect sessions start by logging into the deviceConnect server.

Once inside the server you are going to be able to see an overview of all the devices that are being managed inside deviceConnect. You can views these in a card format with a lot of information visible about each device or devices can be viewed in a simple linear format.

Within the device detail screen you will see a lot of additional detail about the device. Including the mobile applications available for installation via deviceConnect, as well as the mobile apps already installed on that device.

deviceConnect provides a variety of mobile application management functions. Including the ability to manage the different builds of your test application and to understand if the mobile application has been provisioned appropriately.

Additional functionality includes the ability to push a new build of a mobile app to a variety of devices from a single screen.

Additionally a tester can always install a clean build of a mobile app when they go to access the device. Once completed this will open up the pre-launch screen of the deviceConnect deviceViewer. The deviceViewer is the means by which deviceConnect provides a remote view into a mobile device and enables a manual tester or automation engineer to begin testing their mobile applications.

Once they’ve launched the device, the tester will see a screen that is very similar to the real device that they are used to using. Once connected the tester can use their mouse and keyboard, or the onscreen keyboard, to interact with the device just as they would with a device in hand. Application objects are fully interactive for manual testers with the ability click mobile objects like switches, interact with multi-touch gestures (such as pinch and zoom) on screens that multi-touch enabled, even the new iOS7 multi-touch features such as rotating the screen.

Of course any interactions via the deviceViewer are happening on the real mobile device in real time and are being returned to the deviceViewer in real time just as a tester is used to experiencing with device in hand.

Those utilizing HP Unified Function Testing (UFT) you can take these same manual test steps, turn on Record and Play and record test steps. Or if you like utilizing advanced techniques such as creating the objects manually, you can utilize the UFT Object Spy to pull information about all of the different mobile objects from the screen and then go into UFT to build your test case.

UFT now allows us to take that same manual test case we saw before and run it in an automated fashion. UFT can interact with picker wheels, switch objects, and send instructions to the mobile device for steps just as if a tester were holding it in hand. Scripts are designed to run completely cross-platform between iOS and Android.

Finally, our integration with UFT allows us to utilize the standard reporting features that you are use to using for web and desktop testing. This was our simple overview of Mobile Labs deviceConnect. If you would like more information, please reach out to us via our website.
